He was an officer like his father, Field Marshal Lieutenant Josef Reznicek, and appeared to have a military career ahead of him. Following his father's death in 1886, Ferdinand chose an artistic path forward and found himself studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1888.He worked for years as a commercial artist before joining the famed satirical magazine Simplicissimus (the Simplest) in 1896, where he rose to fame as a talented illustrator and painter. Unlike his peers, Reznicek's work in pen, watercolor, and gouache depicted scenes of lavish parties, decadence, dance, and scandalous late-night rendezvous rather than politics. His keen pen strokes, timeless subject matter, and subtle, elegant use of color make his work as relevant in the 21st century as it was in the 19th century.”About the Writer:Writer, artist, and publisher Mark Bussler has written more than 100 books and designed over 300 covers for CGR Publishing.
